Children's Day

December 2nd

Date details +
    Room: Main Shrine Room

Shambhala’s recognition of the seasonal solstice brings us together early on December 2nd to celebrate Children’s Day!

The Shambhala community has drawn on traditional images associated with this time of year to create a distinctive and rich festival of our own. December 2nd provides a special opportunity to express appreciation for, and with, our children. At a time when the weather begins to bear down upon us, we turn to family for celebration, creativity, and generosity. Because the solstice marks the time of year when the daylight has waned and the night is longest, light is a special characteristic of this holiday.

In terms of what the day looks like we will participate as families in creating crafts to decorate our children's day shrine. We will have a Children's Day ceremony with the King and Queen of Shambhala, which will include a blessing line and a chance for children to donate presents to children less fortunate than we are.

Children are encouraged to bring an item to help decorate the shrine! Objects or figures in all shapes, colors, and sizes are welcomed! Also, please bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated through the Samaritan Community. http://www.samaritancommunity.org A potluck lunch will be served – feel free to bring your favorite sides/salads or holiday treat to share with the sangha!

Please come take part in this festive celebration! We will sing, play, dance and eat together as a community to celebrate our own festival of lights. Arrive by 9:30 a.m. to join in the festivities!
